Online sources report a note sent by the Wall Street analyst firm Cowen and Company asserts that the Justice Dept. will OK the Sirius-XM merger within the week. Assistant Attorney General Thomas Barnett of the Dept.’s Antitrust Division will apparently approve the merger despite a staff recommendation against it. In 2006, the Antitrust Chief at the time signed off on the Whirlpool-Maytag merger in spite of not getting approval from the DOJ staff, which reportedly wanted to block the deal. Reports of the imminent deal have sent the price of the two satellite radio companies up almost 6% on the day. The FCC must also approve the merger, though the Dept. of Justice was regarded as the more difficult hurdle:fatboy:

I saw this same info earlier today. Its interesting XM dropped from 15 to 12 last week. Sounds to me like the big boys were trying to manipulate the stock price.

I bought XM about 3 months ago hoping the DOJ would approve the merger. I'm hoping XM gets up to 20.

Me too! I became one in August of 2004 for 500 bucks (the radio was a birthday gift). Conservitively I've probably listened to my radio at least 2,000 hours for the last 3.3 years.

Lifetime Sirius subscriber here too. They keep extending the expiration date for the lifetime offer, could be pulled anytime after Jan 2008 or extended again. I decided after less than a month the $500 for life was well worth it and much better than $12.95 endlessly(with likely increases too).

I'm not sure I would buy any before the decision on the merger by the FCC and DOJ. If the merger doesn't go through I would expect both stocks to drop about 15 to 20%. I think the chance of it going through are about 40%. I own Sirius stock but I wouldn't buy anymore until after the merger decision. On the flip side, if the merger does go through I would expect an immediate 20 to 30% spike upwards. Still would be a great buy for the future even after that.

I own 2 Sirius radios. One life time membership and one I pay $6.99 per month. If the merger goes through I'd love to get a combo of both XM and Sirius in exchange for my second radio I now have.

Couldn't live without the radio. I still listen to some public radio stations in Seattle but it's nice not having to listen to the sport's station here. It sucks. Even though on occasions they talk about sports.

Same here. I have had Sirius for about 3 years. I love the boombox as well.
As far as stock, I have been sitting on 6K shares of siri at $4.23 for a while. When (notice not if) the merger goes through, Siri should go to mid 5's and Xm around 17-18 is my guess. Satellite is awesome and it will get better. No one can tell me that there isn't competition for Satellite as my car does not have Satellite (older Benz) and I don't feel like getting it installed so all I do is listen to my IPOD..merger would be great as I do love some XM radio stations better than Siri. good luck on your investments

everyone ready for the news.... It will be forthcoming any day and the pop for both will happen. Check out who owns 1.2MM shares of xm and siri. My opinion is that this is a done deal!

Good luck to all:dancefool

The comment came from one of Sirius' good buddies - Robert Peck. It's not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination. I just sold off 400 share this morning. Skimmed off some profits. Still holding 13,000 shares.
